Welcome to the Blackheath Conservatoire, the home of creativity.

We are centered in Blackheath village, on the borders of Lewisham and Greenwich. Our mission is to be the home of creativity for people in South East London, of all abilities and backgrounds, seeking excellent learning in the arts – providing a safe, vibrant and welcoming space to inspire and nurture our community of life-long learners.

We aim is to ensure our adventurous range of creative learning opportunities are accessible to all ages, backgrounds and abilities, through innovative individual, group and online learning, alongside exciting and ambitious collaborations and partnerships.

Our Aims

Blackheath Conservatoire charitable object is to promote the study and appreciation of the Music and the Arts within the local communities of Lewisham and Greenwich. To achieve this, we have recently set ourselves the following 5 principal aims.
  • 1. To Improve Arts Access

The Arts are for everyone whatever their background, ability and aspiration. You can explore new art forms, uncover your natural creativity and find new ways to understand and express yourself. Our bursary and funded places programmes support easy access for anyone in the community to discover the Arts at any age.

  • 2. To Improve Community Wellness

Participating in cultural activities can help reduce isolation, improve social skills and strengthen identity and pride. The Arts can lift your mood, help with emotional connection and help foster understanding and empathy.

  • 3. To Nurture the Next Generation of Artists and Audiences

Arts improvers can accelerate their technical skills, develop and update their understanding of theory and practice, evolve their thinking and get support to perform or exhibit in public. Take a deep dive into a chosen art-form and explore the latest in developments in your field. You can complete national music exams, simply learn for fun and develop your appreciation for your chosen art-forms.

  • 4. To Cultivate a Vibrant Artistic Neighbourhood

The Arts come alive when they are shared. Join our creative community, come see a show or develop your own innovative ideas into cultural events and public projects.

The Conservatoire is a cornerstone of the neighbourhood and every activity we deliver makes the community stronger. Together we can help create a diverse local identity and spark a legacy of ongoing cultural involvement.

  • 5. To Contribute to Local Arts Planning and Priorities

The Cultural ecosystem in our local Boroughs of Lewisham & Greenwich is flourishing and the Conservatoire plays a part. We will work with local partnerships to develop new collaborative projects and events.
