Blackheath Conservatoire has been part of this community for over 140 years.
We are committed to ensuring that our building, services, and website are as accessible as possible to everyone, regardless of disability or access needs.
We believe that participation in music and the arts should be open to all, and we take our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 seriously.

Getting here - Blackheath Conservatoire is at 19-21 Lee Road, London SE3 9RQ, a short walk from Blackheath station and well served by buses 54, 89, 108, 202, SL4, N89.
Parking - Unfortunately, there is no dedicated parking on the Conservatoire site. There is paid public parking in the streets immediately adjacent to the Conservatoire or in the car park in Blackheath Station.
Step-free access - Our main entrance is step-free and our teaching spaces and studios are accessible by wheelchair. Where any teaching room is not fully accessible, we will always offer an alternative location.
Accessible toilet - An accessible toilet with grab bar is available in one of our buildings. Please ask at reception on arrival and we will direct you.
Hearing - We do not currently have induction loop facilities. If you have a hearing requirement, please contact us in advance and we will do our best to help.
Sight Impairment - We have tutors with experience of teaching students with sight impairment. Please ask for further information.
Assistance dogs - Assistance and guide dogs are welcome throughout the building.
Getting around the building - Our reception desk has a lowered section for wheelchair users. Staff are available to help you find your way around.
Let us know your needs - If you have any special access requirements, we encourage you to contact us before your visit so we can make sure your experience is as good as possible. You can email info@conservatoire.org.uk or call 020 8852 0234.
Evacuation Assistance - If you might need assistance evacuating the building in an emergency, please let us know when you book or on arrival. We will make sure the right support is in place. You can email info@conservatoire.org.uk or call 020 8852 0234.
At Blackheath Conservatoire we aim to support children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by including helpful strategies to our courses by design. These include:
- Small music groups
- Teaching assistants in larger groups
- Clear and consistent lesson structures
- Use of repetition to underpin learning and structure
- Use of PECS boards
- Providing ear defenders
- Liaising with parents, students and tutors to understand the support needed.
- Offering regular staff training
We will always do our best to remove any barriers to learning. However, we are not a school and may not always have the resources that a school can offer such as 1-1 teaching assistants or an Inclusion Leader. We do however firmly believe that with good communication between staff, family and tutors, we can find a way to support most students with SEND. If you have any queries regarding inclusion, please contact Mairéad Sheerin (she/her), the Conservatoire's Artistic Director: mairead.sheerin@conservatoire.org.uk
