Mary-Margaret Annab
Mary-Margaret is a musician & actor originally from Guelph, Canada. She began studying cello and drama at the age of five, piano at seven, voice at twelve, and had opened her own music studio by fifteen. Her musical experience is not limited to solo work; she has extensive chamber, orchestral, and choral experience, and has been a provincial competitor in ensemble and solo categories for both cello and voice.
At thirteen, Mary-Margaret realized that she could turn her love of the arts into a career, and that determined her path through post-secondary schooling. She studied with leading Canadian theatre artists during her BFA at York University and arts sector leaders during her Masters of Arts Leadership at Queen’s University. Her capstone focus was diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the arts, core values that she brings to her studio.
Mary-Margaret teaches using various programs of study, tailored to what is the best fit for each student. This has included teaching the Royal Conservatory of Music program as well as the Rockschool program. Her method has an emphasis on holistic training, understanding that sight reading, ear training, technique, and theory practice are fundamental to performance work. She aims to make her lessons a brave space for students to explore their talents, try new things, and fall in love with the performing arts, regardless of where that love takes them. Progress is dependent on each student’s ability and desire to move forward, and each week she meets students where they are.
Outside of teaching, Mary-Margaret works as a performer, stage and events manager, and community arts programmer, having worked across Ontario and the UK in her fields. Highlights include performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, programming the international award winning Awesome Arts en folie festival, and production managing groups from around the world at the Harbourfront Centre.
