Ryan Morgan
Music

Ryan Morgan is a London-based composer, performer, contemporary classical/opera singer, and educator known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary classical music. He has been commissioned by the Birmingham Opera Company, London Sinfonietta, and Terra Invisus, and his works uniquely blend performer-centricism with transpersonal practices.

Ryan holds a BMus in Music from the University of Birmingham, where he specialised in electroacoustic composition under Dr. Scott Wilson, and solo vocal performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Johnathan Gunthorpe. He furthered his studies with an MMus in Creative Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London, on a full scholarship, earning a distinction. It was here that Ryan’s practice-based research led him to explore the intersection of ritual, transpersonalism, and innate human creativity in composition and performance.

As an educator, Ryan has developed primary music curricula and extracurricular programmes for a Multi-Academy Trust, directed children’s musicals, choirs, and youth improvisation groups, and led classes that won the Sound of the Year Award 2023. He has also taught at the Sound and Music Summer School, where he guided students in contemporary vocal composition and premiered their works.

Ryan’s work for theatre  includes directing and dramaturgy on productions such as the micro-opera ‘Conflict in Numbers’ for the Birmingham Opera Company and the award-nominated hyper-pop opera ‘It's Not the Sea to Drink’.

Ryan is also the first recipient of the Samuel Coleridge Taylor Prize awarded by the London Mozart Players, recognising his contributions to contemporary classical music. He remains dedicated to inspiring students to explore and develop their innate creativity.
