John Hudson
John Hudson is a guitarist and teacher with more than 20 years’ professional experience and during this time he has taught acoustic, electric and bass guitar to players of all ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to professional musicians. It’s John’s proud boast that he was the first specialist in popular guitar styles to teach at the Conservatoire.
He has experience of a wide range of styles both as a player and a teacher, stretching from rock, pop, blues and folk to jazz. John began classical guitar lessons at the age of 7 but by his early teens he found that his interests lay more in popular styles such as rock and pop, and especially in jazz. John’s teachers included respected jazz guitarists Mike Outram and Phil Robson.
John has been interested in the Alexander Technique, and fascinated by its application to music making, since the mid 1990s when he began studying with Alexander teacher Angela Barlow. As a result of this experience John found that he was able to play the guitar with greater ease and freedom, and in his teaching he draws on the insights he gained as as he tries to help his pupils achieve a balanced, comfortable approach to the instrument.
John has been a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors since 1999 and he has helped many of his students through the acoustic and electric guitar exams administered by this body.
