Say hello to... Blackheath Community Theatre!

BCT 1

After a good few years turning out two productions a term, we decided that our Adult Drama group needed a new name. So we are thrilled to announce that it will now be called Blackheath Community Theatre!

Under the guidance of Artistic Director Simon Geal, the company (formed of two groups) perform in Blackheath at the end of each term in a short production of a well known play for family and friends.

Did you know there is a theatre in Blackheath? Sometimes productions take place at The Bakehouse Theatre, right in the village. A part of Age Exchange, the Bakehouse has been a second home for our drama groups since 2007, with BCT and our youth theatre groups staging over 50 productions there over the last two decades.

Simon Geal, Artistic Director said;

The adult drama programme at the Conservatoire is well established now and from January, will be relaunched as Blackheath Community Theatre. Groups for anyone interested in acting and the theatre in the community, where they can explore their creativity, make new friends and perform each term. Whether they are seasoned actors, complete beginners or anything in between - all are welcome, so if you're interested come along and give it a try. The thing I enjoy most is that the groups always work as an ensemble and are completely multi-cultural.

If you're keen on the idea of joining the group but not sure, don't worry. The atmosphere is supportive, low-pressure and most of all, about having fun. Here's one student's story about her initial concerns;

When I joined the group I was adamant that I wanted a non-speaking role onstage. After a member of the cast became unavailable I was asked to take their part (one with lines). From that moment I haven’t looked back, the opportunity to meet new people and develop a rapport with them in rehearsals and finally on stage is one of the most rewarding parts of the course.

Similarly, if you're worried about not having enough (or any) experience....

Simon really makes everyone in the group feel welcome, from those who have never taken a drama class to those who have experienced the buzz of performing in front of an audience.

BCT rehearse on Mondays 19.45 - 21.45 or Tuesdays 19.30 - 21.30 at the Conservatoire, and next term begins on 6th / 7th January. To enrol call us on 020 8852 0234 or pop in to reception!
