Who would you like to be in the story of The Gruffalo? We will illustrate the story ourselves. How will we make the texture of the Gruffalo's hairy fur, the slithering snake and the clever mouse?

Let The Wild Rumpus Start (4-7 yrs)

Inspired by the beloved story 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak, in this art class we will have a go at drawing our own monsters (or are they self portraits?) in the style of Maurice Sendak. We will make masks and a crown and some musical instruments and dance around like the characters in the story. Perhaps you could wear your crown as your World Book Day costume!

How To Catch a Dream with the BFG (5-11 yrs)

Come along to this all-day art class at the Conservatoire to explore the world of the BFG, based on the children's classic by Roald Dahl! Inspired by Joseph Cornell's vitrines and boxes, you will create your own beautiful dreams in jars... just as if they had been captured by the BFG himself! You'll combine collage, found objects and drawing to create your very own dreamscape. Perhaps there will be some snozzcumbers and frobscottle too!

Let's Visit Narnia! (5-11 yrs)

Take a walk through the magic wardrobe and come to visit Narnia for the day! Under the guidance of your tutor Lilly, you will create a beautiful 3D model using card, clay and paint, based on the children's classic 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' by C.S. Lewis. Decorate your winter scene of an icy castle, and include your favourite characters from Narnia too - you could add a faun, a lion, or a witch!

Teen Clay Club (12-15 yrs)
Tuesday 18th February, 17.00 - 20.00 (£51)
Join us for Clay Club! Suitable for both beginners to clay and those who want to develop their skills. In this half-day workshop, you will be free to create your own ceramic ideas under the guidance of an experienced ceramic tutor. Students will create one or two pieces using techniques to form pinch pots and coiling, decorating with texture and coloured slips. Pieces will then be glazed, fired and ready to collect in a month.

A Peruvian Adventure with Paddington (5-11 yrs)

Come and spend the day with everyone's favourite bear! In this fun all-day art class, you will create a rainforest collage of Paddington's journey through the Amazon rainforest and up the mountain peaks. You will produce your own adventure backpack using scrap fabric, as well as designing a sketchbook for your adventures with Paddington... you'll even make a Peruvian plate to eat your marmalade sandwich on!

In this class we'll be making our own copy of the Wizarding World's newspaper, the 'Daily Prophet'. Covering the twists and turns of events in this third book of Harry Potter, we'll produce illustrated articles on the escape of Sirius Black, the new appointment of teacher (and werewolf) Remus Lupin and the daring rescue of Buckbeak. We'll use techniques such as pen and ink drawing, image transfer, mono printing and photo collage. Book for all 4 of our Harry Potter courses and get £5 off!

Inspired by the beloved ‘Elmer’ series by David McKee, come to explore the world of patchwork elephants in this art class. Everyone loves Elmer! We will make our own Elmer using bright squares of colour in paint and one using coloured acetates. We will explore primary colours and how to mix the secondary colours. Elmer has them all!

You will add each of the famous characters who have travelled on the yellow brick road to get there... will they get to meet the wizard?

Inspired by 'Harry And The Bucket Full Of Dinosaurs’ by Ian Whybrow and Adrian Reynolds, in this art class we will make all sorts of colourful dinosaurs out of plasticine. Will you make a stegosaurus or a brontosaurus? We will make a bucket to carry our dinosaurs home, and explore different media including using rubbings and stencils.

Enter the wonderful and wacky world of Dr Seuss! Inspired by his illustrations and stories, this all-day art class will take inspiration from the fantastical forests and lakes of 'The Lorax' and 'McElligot's Pool'. You'll design fantasy trees, forests and plants to help the Lorax save the environment, drawing and painting from real leaves, and using collage and scrap paper. You might even find a very famous cat in a very famous hat...
