Inspired by the beloved story 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak, in this art class we will have a go at drawing our own monsters (or are they self portraits?) in the style of Maurice Sendak. We will make masks and a crown and some musical instruments and dance around like the characters in the story. Perhaps you could wear your crown as your World Book Day costume!

Inspired by Joseph Cornell's vitrines and boxes, you will create your own beautiful dreams in jars... just as if they had been captured by the BFG himself! You'll combine collage, found objects and drawing to create your very own dreamscape. Perhaps there will be some snozzcumbers and frobscottle too!

Take a walk through the magic wardrobe and come to visit Narnia for the day! Under the guidance of your tutor Lilly, you will create a beautiful 3D model using card, clay and paint, based on the children's classic 'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' by C.S. Lewis. Decorate your winter scene of an icy castle, and include your favourite characters from Narnia too - you could add a faun, a lion, or a witch!

Teen Clay Club (12-15 yrs)

Join us for Clay Club! Suitable for both beginners to clay and those who want to develop their skills. In this half-day workshop, you will be free to create your own ceramic ideas under the guidance of an experienced ceramic tutor. Students will create one or two pieces using techniques to form pinch pots and coiling, decorating with texture and coloured slips. Pieces will then be glazed, fired and ready to collect in a month.

In this class we'll be making our own copy of the Wizarding World's newspaper, the 'Daily Prophet'. Covering the twists and turns of events in this third book of Harry Potter, we'll produce illustrated articles on the escape of Sirius Black, the new appointment of teacher (and werewolf) Remus Lupin and the daring rescue of Buckbeak. You'll design fantasy trees, forests and plants to help the Lorax save the environment, drawing and painting from real leaves, and using collage and scrap paper. You might even find a very famous cat in a very famous hat...
