GCSE & A-Level Art (13-18 yrs)

This course is for anyone wishing to take GCSE, AS or A Level in Art and Design. You can join this class to undertake one of these qualifications here at the Conservatoire, or you can attend this class as a supplement to your work at school or college. The course is also suitable for students wishing to build a portfolio for application to an Art Foundation course.

We work with a strong focus on drawing, and the course is structured in such a way as to enable each student to pursue their own personal line of enquiry in their work. Students are encouraged to explore a range of materials and develop their skills in a supportive art studio environment under the supervision of an expert PGCE-qualified art and design Tutor.

This course is by application only, so please ask our Front of House team for more information if you are interested. If you wish to take one of these qualifications here at the Conservatoire, the course period is two years.

The course runs for 10 weeks from 11 January, with a two-week half term in the middle (15th and 22nd February).

There are two tiers of fees for this class, one for those taking the qualification with us at the Conservatoire, and one for those taking the class as a supplement to their school or college work. The qualification fee is higher to encompass extra studio time, tutor time, and moderation fees.

Alongside this, we run a Further Skills course directly afterwards on a Saturday. This class explores a different skill or medium each half term, designed to complement students' work in the GCSE and A Level Art class. This Spring term the Further Skills course will cover an introduction to oil painting (first half of term) and how to work with textiles (second half of term). Students can book on to each half term separately, depending on their focus and interests.

The Further Skills class is also open to non-GSCE and A Level participants, so please do get in touch if you are interested.
