Viktor Obsust

Viktor Obsust left his native Yugoslavia at the age of 17 in 1992. During his studies at the Bratislava State Conservatoire in Slovakia, where he graduated in 1997, he was co-principal double bass with the State Chamber Opera of the Slovak National Theatre (Bratislava) and also principal bass in the musical Fiddler on the Roof and worked in the Czech Republic in Alternative Theatre Ha-Divadlo in Brno.
He became active on the jazz scene in Prague. Viktor has since kept active in the jazz, improvisation and world music scenes not renouncing his classical background. He was awarded scholarship to attend masterclass with Peter Buckoke at Dartington International Summer School after his graduation, which resulted in his arrival to London as an Aurelius scholar for MA in Music Education at Trinity College of Music. He was invited to attended Sandor Vegh Chamber Music Academy and recently joined Barnet Chamber Music Society specialising in Zelenka, amongst others. Apart from recent regular appearances at the Vortex Jazz Club and at Le Quecumbar, Viktor had the pleasure and privilege to perform at most principal venues in the UK.
He has been a tutor at Benslow Music since 2001 and whilst completing PGCE (Music Specialist) in 2005 he also became associate lecturer with University of Chichester where he taught for few years before dedicating more time to his family. He was admitted Fellow in Double Bass by Trinity College London in 2002 and in 2012 became a memeber of the Royal Society of Musicians.
