Sarah Desbruslais

Sarah Desbruslais graduated in 2002 and then studied with Karen Jones to attain Distinction in her Performance Diploma in 2004. She went on to study with Anna Noakes, Wissam Boustany and Alan Baker to attain a Masters degree in flute performance and an FTCL (fellowship diploma) at Trinity College in 2008.

Sarah is in high demand both as a soloist and as a freelance orchestral musician. She has played principal positions under several orchestras such as the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra, The Westminster Philharmonic Orchestra and Trinity Symphony orchestra under the instruction of Barry Wordsworth and Simon Wright. She has performed in all of the major London concert halls with artists such as James Galway, Kirsten Spratt and Mike Mower. Sarah is also one of the founding members of the contemporary flute octet Ayre, which has performed at prestigious events such as the British Flute Society Convention in Manchester, St Martin in the Fields and the Royal Festival Hall.

Sarah has recently performed flute and piccolo in West Side Story and The Ripper, a premier by Paul Herbert in London’s West End. Forthcoming events include playing principal in Debussy’s L’Apres Midi d’un Faune, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony, and as a soloist; Mozart’s G major Concerto for flute. As well as enjoying teaching aspiring flautists, Sarah has also gained a very positive experience through teaching music to those with special needs.

"I love to teach because music is a universal language. It can express itself to each individual in its own special way."
