Our Teachers

Kathryn Workman

Kathryn studied for a BA Combined Honours degree (French/Music) at Southampton University, studying with Irene Pragnell. As part of her studies, the third year of her degree was spent in Paris, where she studied with David Walter at the Paris Conservatoire. Upon graduation, she was invited to study with Nicolas Daniel at Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington USA with a full scholarship, from where she gained a PostGraduate Diploma in Oboe Performance. During this time, she won the Woodwind Concerto Competition Oboe Final, and was awarded the Indiana University School of Music Merit Award. As recipient of the Oriana Trust award, Kathryn completed a PostGraduate Diploma at the Royal College of Music in July 2001. Since graduation, Kathryn has enjoyed a variety of freelance work. Regular engagements have included freelance work with various professional orchestras in and around London, Europe and the Middle East. Kathryn has also recorded several CDs both as a soloist and orchestral player, and has performed many concerti and solo recitals across the UK and the Channel Islands.

Kathryn has always enjoyed a wide variety of teaching experiences. She is currently Assistant Lecturer in Music Performance (Oboe) at the University of Kent’s School of Music and Fine Art. In addition to her oboe teaching, and ABRSM Music Theory, Kathryn also teaches the piano, specialising in young learners and beginner tuition, and she also teaches both the full ABRSM and Trinity examination boards syllabus. Kathryn enjoys teaching a wide range of ages, and currently the age range of her pupils are from 6 through to over 90!
