Jay Hammond was born in southeast London and is a singer, musician and visual artist specialising in sound art performance and sound installations.

A trained singer, Jay has collaborated in a variety of bands and experimental vocal work as well as teaching the ukulele for a range of organisations for all ages and running her own ukulele groups for adults.

Jay has often worked with Heart and Soul, a community organisation for children and adults with learning difficulties running sessions exploring sound as music as well as working on many of their events including The Beautiful Octopus event held at the South Bank Centre.

Jay has studied at Camberwell College of Art and Design, trained at London Collage of Contemporary Music and graduated from Brighton University of Art with a BA in Music and Visual Art.

Jay has recently completed her Master’s degree at Goldsmiths University in Popular Music, where she composed a solo performance for her final project, using soundscaps and playing the Appalachian Dulcimer with live looping from found objects to create compositions. Jay works very much with multimedia and is experienced in music technology and production.
