Felicity Buckland

Felicity Buckland gained a first class honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in 2010, where she studied with Thomas Schulze and was the recipient of the Eunice Pettigrew Prize. Since graduating, she has performed extensively both as a professional soloist and consort singer alongside her advanced studies with Mary Plazas.

Operatic roles have included the Dragonfly in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and Glascha in Katya Kabanova, (RNCM), Mercedes in Carmen (Co-Opera Co), and Jill-All-Alone in Merrie England (Opera South). She has also sung in the chorus of Eugene Onegin, The Cunning Little Vixen, Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus and Candide (RNCM), Dido & Aeneas (the Manchester Consort), and Il Giorno di Regno (Cantiere Internazionale D'Arte, Montepulciano, Tuscany). RNCM Opera Scenes roles include Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Meg Page in Falstaff.

In solo oratorio, Felicity has sung Bach’s St Matthew Passion (The Manchester Consort), Jenkins’ The Armed Man (The National Youth Choir, the London Philharmonia Orchestra and the composer conducting) and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Reading University). Chorus repertoire includes Berlioz’ L’Enfance du Christ, Handel’s Messiah, Saul and Dixit Dominus, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, and Verdi’s Requiem.

Felicity has a keen interest in other kinds of music, including jazz, gospel, and musical theatre. She played Rosalia in RNCM Community Outreach’s 2008 sell-out production of West Side Story, and was co-director of RNCM Youth Perform. This musical theatre group was aimed at Manchester teens that might not otherwise have the opportunity to rehearse and perform fully staged productions to a high standard. Felicity teaches singing and is training young choristers for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.

Felicity is also in demand as a corporate event and wedding singer. She has recorded several high-profile choral discs, including Gloria/Te Deum and Shakarim, Karl Jenkins, both released on EMI, and Light and Gold, Eric Whitacre, which recently won the 2012 Grammy for Best Choral Performance.

Felicity is currently preparing for a new addition to the family in the form of a Welsh Terrier puppy, and is looking forward to singing in the chorus for Opera Holland Park’s summer productions of Eugene Onegin and Falstaff.

If Felicity were to be stranded on a desert island, she would like to have with her:
Bach St Matthew Passion
Verdi Requiem
Ravel L'Enfant et Les Sortilèges
And I will sneak in Eric Whitacre, A Boy and a Girl, because it's only short!

"I love to teach because because I get absurdly excited (seriously, it's embarrassing) at seeing other people having a great time singing while discovering and developing skills they never knew they had. Hurray!"
