Support Our Bursary Scheme

Date / Time:

15 May 17 10.00 -8.00

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters the Conservatoire has for many years offered a small number of bursaries to those who would not otherwise be able to afford our tuition or classes.

The Conservatoire is in leafy Blackheath, but it is also in the middle of Lewisham and Greenwich where 1 in 3 children in live in poverty. Through our bursary scheme we provide access at no cost to those who would greatly benefit from our programmes but who do not have the means.

We are particularly motivated to offer bursaries to young people who may be becoming disengaged at school. Shockingly, in Greenwich and Lewisham almost half of 19 year olds have no qualifications – some of the lowest rates of achievement in the UK. A creative outlet and the opportunity to earn a recognised award is a constructive way to challenge the unfairly low life chances of our young community. The Cultural Learning Alliance found that students from low-income families who take part in arts activities at school are three times more likely to get a degree.

The Conservatoire hopes to offer 60 fully funded places for bursary students each year. With many thanks to generous supporters, including the Peter Harris Trust and Lark Insurance, we have already secured almost 70% of the costs. But we need your help to raise a further £15,000.
