Marketing and Events Manager – maternity cover, 14 months


  • Ideally starting mid-September 2018
  • 20 hours per week, up to £31,000 pro rata.


A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced marketing professional to join a very special creative charity in South East London.


This is a very exciting time for the Conservatoire. We have recently refreshed our brand and are about to launch our new website. The next step will be continuing discussions with our database provider in order to implement online booking. We are investing in the development of our community outreach programmes, and continue to deliver an outstanding creative education to the people of Greenwich and Lewisham.


As we look increasingly to the wider community, we are recruiting a Marketing and Events Manager to cover a 14-month period of maternity leave, including handovers. You will have:

  • Experience of managing marketing/events
  • Knowledge of producing brochures and other publications
  • Using social media to interact with existing learners and attract new ones
  • An ability to grasp quickly our ethos and values

JOB TITLE: Marketing and Events Manager (maternity cover)


HOURS: Maternity cover: 14 month contract 20 hours per week ideally worked over Monday – Wednesday, but this can be discussed


REMUNERATION: Up to £31,000 pro rata to 20 hours per week




BASED AT: Blackheath Conservatoire, though an element of working from home may be possible




  • Work with the Principal, Programme Manager and other core team members to continue to implement the Conservatoire’s new marketing and events strategy. This includes:
    • Communicating a clear and engaging brand for the organisation;
    • Ensuring effective and responsive marketing communications that support our sales, tuition and events
    • Helping to deliver the final stages of the new website; and
    • Managing an events programme that develops our audience and brand


  • Managing the work of the Marketing Assistant




  • To communicate a compelling and creative brand for the Conservatoire
  • To implement consistent, proactive marketing and sales communications working with the Marketing Assistant, including:
    • Website
    • Social media
    • Course guides/brochures
    • Direct marketing particularly via email
    • Partners in schools and community settings


  • To work with the senior management team under the Principal to ensure sales are in line with or ahead of budget for group and individual tuition


  • To ensure the Conservatoire’s events programme showcases the work of Tutors and learners (e.g. through concerts, exhibitions and productions) and develops new audiences


  • To work with the Principal to provide management information to the Board of Trustees






  • Working in a charity or social enterprise
  • Demonstrable success in a marketing and communications role
  • Successful implementation of a sales-focused marketing strategy
  • Track record of the use of web and social media



  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to communicate and influence
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads



  • Understanding of the creative or charity sectors
  • Use of social media to support and develop new markets
  • Production of print brochures and online content




This role is for a fixed period of 14 months to cover maternity leave. Much of the work will sit within the framework of an existing brand and marketing strategy
