Our Bursary Scheme

The Conservatoire offers a small number of bursaries each year to children and young people who would not otherwise be able to afford our tuition or classes.

Click here to read more about one of our successful bursary students, Michelle O Faith.

What are bursaries available for?

Through our bursary scheme we provide access for those who would greatly benefit from our programmes but who do not have the means. Subject to securing sufficient funding in 2017-18 the Conservatoire aims to offer:

- 20 bursaries for 1:1 instrumental tuition

- 10 bursaries for early years groups

Art & Drama

- 10 bursaries for group art and drama tuition

How do you decide who to support?

Applicants are required to provide evidence of financial need, commitment and, where relevant, aptitude. The Conservatoire welcomes applications from anyone aged 25 or under who would not otherwise be able to afford our tuition or classes. Depending on demand some applicants may be invited for an informal chat with one of our teaching staff as part of their application.

We work with local schools and children’s centres to encourage applicants. We prioritise applications from those who live and study in Greenwich and Lewisham. Applications are considered by our Bursary Panel. Bursaries are awarded within our funding constraints to those who best meet our criteria: finance; commitment; and aptitude.

What does the Conservatoire ask of its Bursary Students?

Successful applicants will not be asked to make any financial contribution to their tuition or their course. Bursary students must commit to their course or tuition, including undertaking some independent study/ practice. Bursaries will be reviewed periodically to confirm regular attendance.

The Conservatoire Bursary Students should be willing to perform in concerts and at relevant events. They should also be willing to complete a short, end of year evaluation on their experience with us.

How do I apply?

To apply for a bursary please drop in and pick up a form from reception, or email bursary@conservatoire.org.uk and we will send it to you by email!

If you can please send a maximum of 3 recent supporting documents from schools or Government bodies such as: evidence of income; receipt of benefits; eligibility for pupil premium/ free school meals; or a statement of support from a school or equivalent. Bursaries will be awarded in line with the best evidence provided against our criteria.

One form is required per applicant. If you require this document in another format please contact us.

When will I find out if I have been awarded a bursary?

Applicants will be contacted in July 2017 with the outcome of their application.

1 Conservatoire Course Guide Summer 2017 gives details of the courses we currently offer. Please note courses are subject to change.

2 Successful applicants will be contacted in July to schedule their course/ tuition times for a September 2017 start. We are unable to guarantee availability of particular timeslots.
