Top quality, fun and creative courses for children, young people and adults aged 1 - 100!

Art, Music and Drama – Creativity, Quality and Community

To enrol call 020 8852 0234 or email info@conservatoire.org.uk

Established in 1881 by William Webster, the Conservatoire is part of the oldest surviving purpose-built cultural complex in London, and a much-loved local institution. It was founded to provide art, music and drama education to the community and its values remain those of Creativity, Quality and Community.

The Conservatoire is the focus of arts education and events in South East London and provides exceptional teaching for ages 0 to 100. We run on average 350 courses per term (three times a year), serving over 4000 students a year, as well as offering over 20 types of individual tuition, accessed by more than 600 students a term. As such, it is vitally important that current and potential users can easily access information about our courses, tuition and teachers, and where possible, take the opportunity to book these services online.

In addition to termly tuition, we offer holiday courses and special events. These events include Family Jazz concerts and Masterclasses, students’ concerts and exhibitions, one-off arts and craft/lifestyle classes and our annual festive season, including fake snow and a giant igloo.

We've got more summer holiday courses than ever before, introducing new skills, art forms and subjects to make this the best summer yet!

Deep breath...

We'll be welcoming those aged 3 -5 years aboard the
Magic Carpet, flying up to see Life In Space and Earth From The Air, before ducking under The Big Wave, making Pirate Puppets, and enjoying All The Fun Of The Seaside before drying off in our Matisse Studio and delving in to the history of the Egyptian Mummy.

With those a bit older, between 5 - 11 years we'll Float Away On An Adventure, doing Volcano Prints and getting super marvellous in Superheroes Books. Then we'll dive to Under The Sea Adventures, learn Bookbinding For Beginners, and learn to create them in  Make Your Own Sketchbook or Travel Journal. And at the height of summer we'll succumb to the heat with Experimental Drawing and Marbling Adventures.

And that's not all. Oh no. No more bored teenagers with our art courses for 9 - 14 year olds! We'll be making pictures move in Animation Nation, something out of nothing in Recycle Art and good things better in Creative Upcycling, before taking to the skies in Let's Go Fly A Fighter Kite.
We'll also be giving a big Thumbs Up! to the genius David Shrigley and learning all about the delicate art of Printmaking.

Also our neighbours Jo Townshend Architects will be sponsoring two amazing architectural design courses in Fantastic Bedroom Designs (5 - 11 yrs) and Redesign Your Bedroom (9 - 14 yrs)

We've got music this holiday too! Our Toddler Tunes (18mths - 3yrs), Tiny Tots (0 - 2 yrs) and Family Music (0 - 5 yrs) programmes are continuing for our very littlest ones.

There's our fantastic fun-filled Guitar Workshops for 6-9 year olds and a 5-day Summer School for Young Musicians for our 5-14 year old musicians.
We've also got two sessions each of our Ukulele For Beginners (3 - 5 yrs) and our Ukulele Band for those who've already caught the uke bug one for 5 - 11 yrs and one for 9 - 14 yrs.

We're very excited about discovering our new Ed Sheerans in Write And Produce A Song In 3 Days for 9 - 16 year olds, and training our very own Beyoncés in Introduction To Song Writing.

Floods Of Ink are back with us for this Summer, doing a Play In A Day and 3 Day Drama Adventure for 4 - 7 year olds. For those aged 5 - 11, we'll be having our first foray in to Musical Theatre across two workshops based on The Lion King and Seussical, and even doing some Circus Skills while our 7 -11 year olds go on Acting Adventures.

Floods Of Ink will also be taking on our teenagers aged 9 - 14 yrs in our very first Physical Theatre Workshop, while our regular term time classes Blackheath Youth Theatre and Blackheath Youth Theatre Academy return for a 4 week special.

Yes that's right! We're having our first dance workshop ever with Introduction to Hip Hop. We could have a whole new department on our hands!

And a little something for the grown ups...

Kids aren't the only ones who get to have fun!
The inimitable Simon Willems will be running a Drawing and Painting Summer School every Friday 10am - 4pm from 28th July - 18th August.
And Nick Cuthell will be joining in the adventuring in Adventures In Oils: A 3 Day Course, exploring all the delicate intricacies of oil painting for beginners to more advanced painters.

Our May half-term courses were sold out so book your place quickly by phoning 020 8852 0234 or popping in to see us at The Conservatoire!
