The Beano is the longest running British Children’s comic, published by DC Thomson.
It’s been going since 1938 and sells over 30,000 copies per week. Loved by children of all ages, it shows the endurance of comic books to cross generations and the strength of the mischievous characters who continue to be popular to this day. We will explore the characters, past and present, look at the types of adventures they got up to, and predict some stories for the future. Story lines, themes and characters over the years have changed to re ect what was popular or part of culture at the time. What will the future hold for Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx and the Bash Street Kids? Students will create a Beano comic set in their own imagined future, taking part in creative writing, and improving their drawing techniques. At the end of the day they will have their own personal Beano comic strip.
