Melanie has lived in Blackheath for over 17 years. She loves the community feel, the abundance of trees and birds, and the open green space.
Before being part of the Conservatoire, Melanie graduated with a degree in English Literature and Social Anthropology. Her first job was as a (very bad) waitress, but fortunately for all concerned it was short lived, and she found her feet working in advertising production in the glossy world of fashion magazines. As well as developing an underrated knowledge of shoes, she worked on innovative advertising campaigns for clients including Chanel and Manolo Blahnik.
She first discovered the Conservatoire as a parent, bringing her boys to the children’s art classes. The boys still remember their first session as they created a futuristic cityscape with flying cars! They have enjoyed many more art courses over the years and in 2012 Melanie decided to get involved too and joined the Front of House team. One of the perks of her role is being able to work with the most amazing background music - from the beautiful harmonies of the Thula Mamas group, to the infectious rhymes and giggles from the Toddler Tunes classes. You'll even catch her singing along at her desk if she thinks no-one’s listening.
If stranded on a desert island, Melanie would like to have A Room with a View by EM Forster, Jools Holland’s Hop the Wag, and a pen & notebook so she can write a list of things that need to be done.
